How to fix the container a:link in Elementor

March 6, 2026

Anyone who has tried to setting a container HTML type to ‘a:link’ inĀ  Elementor would have come across a problem where it breaks the layout. This is a glaring bug that Elementor seemingly has no intention of fixing as it’s been flagged and reported so many times for so long. Many loop grids ideally need the whole grid squre to be a live link, not just elements inside, so this really is an issue that needs solving.

One fix is to absolute position an internal container inside a parent container – giving it 100% width and height (and with a high Z index).Ā  I’ve tried this recently and for some reason it didn’t work.

Take a bow Faiz R who has made the perfect add-on to Elementor – a plugin that displays a separate link field when editing a container. Works perfect! Thank you so much Faiz.
